Japanese composer and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda has conceived an exhibition for the Hamburger Bahnhof that, for the first time, compositionally unites the two symmetrical halls on the upper level of the museum's east and west wings. The exhibition's title "db" (abbr. for decibel) refers to this symmetry while simultaneously indicating the complementary relationship between the two exhibition spaces.

Morton Bartlett

Die dritte Ausstellung der Reihe "secret universe" zeigt das Werk des amerikanischen Künstlers Morton Bartlett (1909-1992). Im Zentrum seines Schaffens stehen 15 halblebensgroße Puppen, zwölf Mädchen und drei Jungen. Bartlett, der sein Studium in Harvard abbrach, um als freier Werbefotograf zu arbeiten, begann Mitte der 1930er Jahre diese Puppen so naturidentisch wie möglich zu gestalten.
Qiu Shihua

Die Ausstellung mit Werken des chinesischen Künstlers Qiu Shihua in der Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof zeigt erstmals eine museale Einzelpräsentation des Künstlers in Europa. Es wird eine Auswahl von Arbeiten einer spezifischen Phase im künstlerischen OEuvre des 1940 geborenen Künstlers präsentiert.

Five Minutes of Pure Sculpture

Erstmals werden die Werke des in New York lebenden Künstlers Anthony McCall in einer Einzelausstellung in einem deutschen Museum präsentiert. McCalls einzigartige Lichtprojektionen, die er seit den 1970er Jahren entwickelt hat, existieren an den Grenzen von Kino, Skulptur und Zeichnung: animierte Linien werden in einen dunklen, mit leichtem Dunst gefüllten Raum projiziert, so dass der Betrachter in die Lichtkegel eintreten und ihre Gestalt verändern kann.

The National Gallery's collection features several important works by Hans-Peter Feldmann. The artist recently made a donation to the National Gallery of his key work, 'Die Toten' ('The Dead'). We are proud to announce that it now forms part of the collection and is to go on display in a special exhibition dedicated exclusively to this work.

Since November 1996, Hamburger Bahnhof has housed Nationalgalerie's Museum für Gegenwart (Museum for Contemporary Art). Parallel to temporary exhibitions, the museum also presents works from its own important collections in a series of rotating exhibitions on the 10,000 square meters of space at its disposal: major works from the Nationalgalerie, the Marx and Marzona Collections, as well as the Friedrich Christian Flick Collection im Hamburger Bahnhof are presented in different constellations.
